Concern about the loss of Adherence to Mediterranean Diet in the Mediterranean Region

Meeting of the Mediterranean Diet Joint Task Force in Rome

The Mediterranean Diet Joint Task Force is a collaborative working group integrated by members of the Task Force on Mediterranean Networking of the Federation of European Nutrition Societies (FENS), the Sustainable Diets Task Force of the International Union of Nutrition Societies (IUNS) and the Sustainable Mediterranean Diet Unit of the International Centre for Advanced Agronomic Mediterranean Studies (CIHEAM). All these institutions share the concern about the shifting away from the Mediterranean Diet in the population living in the Mediterranean region, the need to revitalize the Mediterranean Diet and the work on possible solutions.

The Joint Task Force is working on three well-defined targets:

  • Drafting a voluntary code of conduct for all actors, grounded in tradition and consistent with Sustainable Food Systems.
  • Reaching consensus, on the elements required to measure adherence to the Med Diet through a single index, if possible.
  • Elaborating the Mediterranean Diet in the context of the 21st century challenges.

Joint Task Force results will be presented within a dedicated symposium at the IUNS International Congress of Nutrition (IUNS-ICN) 2025, which will be held at Palais des Congrès of Paris (France) from 24th -29th August 2025.
