The World Obesity Federation is hosting its next Strategic Centre for Obesity Professional Education (SCOPE) School in Mumbai, India, on 20 February. The topic is “Patient-centred care in obesity management: a multi-disciplinary approach”.

India is facing a steadily rising rate of obesity among both adults and children, with projections of further increase in the coming years. 

Recent data highlights that over 135 million people in India are affected by obesity, contributing to a significant public health burden and an increase in associated healthcare costs. This calls for an urgent action for targeted interventions to address obesity and prevent its associated comorbidities and complications. Despite this critical need, specific training on multi-disciplinary obesity management remains limited.

The SCOPE School in India aims to bridge this educational gap, equip healthcare professionals with the necessary skills and understanding to respond to the challenges in obesity management in a culturally relevant context, ensuring a holistic and multidisciplinary approach to support people living with obesity.
