Singapore Nutrition and Dietetics Association Advocating for Better Nutrition: SNDA’s Impactful Year in Public Health
The past year has been an inspiring one for the Singapore Nutrition and Dietetics Association (SNDA) community, as we took significant strides in promoting better nutrition and raising public health awareness. Through our participation in a range of events, we connected with diverse age groups, offered evidence-based advice, and underscored the importance of professional nutritional guidance.
Empowering Families at the Neighbourhood Health Service Kids (NHS kids) Event
At the NHS Kids event, our members focused on the foundation of lifelong health – childhood
nutrition. As part of health screenings for children, we engaged in meaningful conversations with
parents, providing practical tips on fostering healthy eating habits for their young ones. By
addressing parents’ concerns and sharing strategies tailored to their children’s needs, we helped
set the stage for healthier futures.
Interactive Engagement at Public Health Service (PHS)
The PHS event saw us combining an exhibition booth with interactive consultations. Through
engaging activities, we highlighted the often-overlooked sodium content in popular local hawker
foods. Participants were surprised to learn how their daily food choices could significantly affect
their health. By visualizing sodium levels and sharing actionable tips for reducing salt intake, we
empowered attendees to make informed dietary decisions that support long-term health.
Shedding Light on Sugar at the WDD Event
At the World Diabetes Day (WDD) event, our mission was to raise awareness of hidden sugars
in everyday foods and desserts. Using visual representations of sugar content, we sparked
meaningful conversations about blood sugar management and diabetes prevention. We provided
the public with valuable insights to help them take charge of their health.
Supporting Seniors at the Active Aging Advocates (AAA) Event
Nutrition plays a vital role in healthy aging, and our participation in the AAA event highlighted
this. During a health screening tailored to seniors, we provided nutrition interventions for those
at risk of malnutrition and osteoporosis. By focusing on nutrient-rich foods that support bone
health and overall vitality, we empowered seniors to maintain their independence and well-being.
Looking Ahead
As we reflect on these impactful events, we are proud of the role SNDA plays in promoting
better health through nutrition. Each interaction, activity, and session reinforced the essential
contributions of qualified nutritionists and dietitians in addressing public health concerns.
Moving forward, SNDA remains committed to public health initiatives that emphasize the
importance of professional nutritional advice. By actively participating in these programs, we
aim to continue empowering individuals of all ages to make healthier choices, enhancing their
overall well-being.
Together, as a community of nutrition professionals, we will drive greater awareness, inspire
change, and build healthier communities.
Thank you – Singapore Nutrition and Dietetics Association (SNDA)
