Celebrating 80 Years of IUNS: Applications Open Now for the Inaugural Jo Hautvast Nutrition Leadership Award

As part of the celebrations marking the 80th Anniversary of the International Union of Nutritional Sciences (IUNS), IUNS is pleased to announce the launch of the inaugural IUNS Jo Hautvast Nutrition Leadership Award, with applications opening from today (2 July 2026).

Established in honour of Professor Jo Hautvast, the new award recognises individuals who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and made significant contributions to the advancement of nutrition science and its application to improve health and well-being. The award reflects IUNS’s enduring commitment to fostering excellence and supporting leaders who are shaping the future of nutrition worldwide.

The introduction of this prestigious award is one of the initiatives commemorating 80 years of IUNS leadership in promoting nutrition science and international collaboration. Researchers, educators, policymakers, and professionals whose work has had a substantial impact at the national, regional, or global level are encouraged to apply.

Applications Open for the Nutrition Society Mike Gibney Early Career Award

The Nutrition Society invites applications for the prestigious Mike Gibney Early Career Award, recognising exceptional emerging leaders who are translating nutrition science into meaningful real-world impact. Established in honour of Mike Gibney, the award celebrates innovation, collaboration and leadership across academia, industry, policy, public health and education.

The award acknowledges early career researchers and professionals who demonstrate excellence in advancing nutritional science and its application. Particular emphasis is placed on interdisciplinary working, knowledge exchange, external visibility and demonstrable impact on practice or policy. Applicants must be current members of The Nutrition Society and normally within six years of completing their most recent relevant qualification, with allowances for career breaks.

The recipient will be formally recognised at the Society’s Summer Congress, held 21–24 July 2026 at Newcastle University, where they will deliver a keynote lecture. The awardee will also be invited to contribute an article to the Nutrition Society Gazette, further showcasing their work to the wider community.

Applications require a full CV and supporting statements outlining achievements, impact, collaboration and professional engagement.

The deadline for submissions is 13 April 2026. Early career professionals are strongly encouraged to apply and gain recognition for their contribution to the future of nutrition science.

STREAMING Open Call: Grants for Digital Training to Strengthen Sustainable Food Systems

The STREAMING Project — Sustainable Trade Regimes with Europe and Africa through Mapping Innovation, New-technology and Growth-mindset — has launched an Open Call for Knowledge Transfer Grants to support the development of digital training materials that strengthen sustainable food value chains across Africa and Europe. Funded under Horizon Europe, this initiative aims to bridge research and practice by enabling organisations to create interactive, practice-oriented courses that connect researchers with farmers, processors, start-ups and other food system actors.

A total budget of €275,000 is available, with grants of up to €25,000 per project and funding covering course development over 8–12 months. Priority topics include traceability in food supply chains; sustainable farming systems; nutrition and micronutrient deficiency reduction; food safety; food waste reduction; and scaling innovations for resilient food systems. At least 60% of funding will support organisations based in African countries, and women-led entities and female innovators are strongly encouraged to apply.

Eligible applicants include research institutions, universities, NGOs, industry partners, innovation hubs and vocational institutions from Africa and Europe. Proposals must be submitted by 2 March 2026 (23:59 CET) following the guidance and templates provided in the Open Call Kit available on the STREAMING website.

ANH Academy Science‑Policy Fellowships 2026–27: Call for Applications

The Agriculture, Nutrition & Health (ANH) Academy has opened applications for the second round of its Science‑Policy Fellowships for 2026–27, offering a unique opportunity for researchers to translate scientific evidence into actionable policy. These one‑year, full‑time Fellowships aim to support evidence‑based policy decisions that increase access to healthy diets and reduce food loss and waste in Sub‑Saharan Africa and South Asia. 

Up to three Fellows will be selected to work with both a Policy Mentor from a public sector organisation and a Research Mentor from an academic or research institution, tailoring research to inform real‑world decision‑making. Fellows will spend significant time embedded within a policy organisation, strengthening ties between science and policy processes. 

Applications are open now and must be submitted by 28 February 2026. Fellowships will begin between June and December 2026, and each award includes a competitive stipend of £52,600 to support the Fellow for the 12‑month period. 

Candidates with a doctoral degree in agriculture, nutrition, health or related fields are encouraged to apply, especially early‑career scientists and those connected to institutions in the targeted regions.

Celebrating Emerging Voices in Nutrition: IUNS Early Career Travel Grant Reception at IUNS-ICN Paris

This year, the International Union of Nutritional Sciences (IUNS) proudly awarded 21 exceptional early-career researchers with the IUNS Early Career Travel Grant, supporting their travel to the IUNS-ICN in Paris to present their work on the global stage.

With hundreds of applications submitted from around the world, the selection process was highly competitive. The final recipients stood out for the quality, originality, and relevance of their abstracts—representing the very best of emerging research in nutrition science and public health.

Honouring Excellence at IUNS-ICN

During the congress, IUNS formally recognised these early-career researchers in nutrition through a dedicated segment in the awards ceremony and a special reception evening. The event celebrated not only their scientific contributions but also their potential to shape the future of global nutrition.

A Night to Remember

The reception was held at the stunning rooftop bar of the Hyatt Regency Etoile, offering panoramic views of Paris and a warm atmosphere for networking and celebration. We were delighted to be joined by Taichi Inui and colleagues from DSM-Firmenich, whose generous sponsorship made the event possible, as well as members of the IUNS Council.

The Future of Nutrition is Bright

As the reception ended, the energy in the room was great—a genuine feeling of inspiration, new connections, and shared goals. The IUNS Council and all attendees were truly impressed by the dedication and important work of these grant recipients. These 21 researchers are not just presenting their research; they are bringing forward the innovative solutions and critical ideas needed to handle the world’s challenges in nutrition and public health.

We offer our sincere congratulations again to all recipients of the IUNS Early Career Travel Grant. IUNS-ICN 2025 in Paris: Grant Opportunities

The French Nutrition Society is supporting students from low-income and lower-middle income countries presenting at the IUNS-ICN Paris 2025, by offering 30 grants to cover the cost with a reimbursement of up to 600 Euros.

Applicants must provide proof of student status and acceptance of their abstract. Reimbursement upon presentation of supporting documents after the IUNS-ICN. When the 30 grants have been allocated, information will be posted on the website of the French Nutrition Society and of the IUNS-ICN Paris 2025 (please check before submitting).

British Nutrition Foundation Drummond Early Career Scientist Award 2025

The British Nutrition Foundation Drummond Early Career Scientist Award recognises early career nutrition scientists (or those working in a related field), whether working in academia, policy or industry, who show great potential to be future leaders in the field. Applications are welcome from any country.

Applicants are required to complete an application form and submit an abstract that could be turned into a mini review describing a topical, emerging area of human nutrition science that would be suitable for submission to the British Nutrition Foundation’s peer-reviewed journal Nutrition Bulletin.

Applied Physiology, Nutrition, and Metabolism Award for Nutrition Translation

The Canadian Nutrition Society (CNS) is calling for proposals for the Applied Physiology, Nutrition, and Metabolism (APNM) Award for Nutrition Translation.

This prestigious award aims to recognize excellence in the translation of nutritional knowledge, fostering activities that bridge the gap between research and practice in the field of nutrition. 

The submission of proposals is open to all scientists, but preference will be given to members and supporters of CNS. It is ideal if both nutrition and physical activity are addressed and would be considered a strength, however, the inclusion of physical activity is not essential. If needed, the lead applicant may choose to partner with a co-author with expertise in both the fields of nutrition and physical activity. 

A team with an early and/or mid-career investigator is encouraged. Trainees are welcomed to submit a proposal with the support of their supervisor or mentor.

IUNS Early Career Travel Grant: Applications Open

We are pleased to announce that applications are now open for the Early Career Travel Grants to attend the 23rd International Congress of Nutrition (IUNS-ICN), scheduled from August 24 to 29, 2025, at the Palais des Congrès in Paris, France. This prestigious event, organized by THE FRENCH SOCIETY OF NUTRITION AND THE FRENCH FEDERATION OF NUTRITION on behalf of the International Union of Nutritional Sciences (IUNS), will convene global experts to discuss the theme “Sustainable Food for Global Health”.

Grant Overview: The Early Career Travel Grants aim to support emerging researchers and professionals in the field of nutritional sciences, facilitating their participation in this significant congress. Recipients will receive financial assistance to cover registration to the congress, travel and accommodation expenses. 

Please note:  Travel grants are available to applicants  worldwide. Grant recipients will be selected from the pool of accepted poster and oral abstract submissions. You can submit your application before receiving your abstract acceptance notice. 

Eligibility Criteria: 

  • Be within 10 years of graduation from their most recent degree. 
  • Have an accepted abstract (oral or poster) to the  IUNS-ICN 2025. 
  • Provide a  supporting letter  from an official at their IUNS Adhering Body, university, or research centre. 
  • Provide  proof of conference registration  and a valid  visa to enter France  (where applicable) before the grant is awarded. 

Application Procedure:
