British Nutrition Foundation Drummond Early Career Scientist Award 2025

The British Nutrition Foundation Drummond Early Career Scientist Award recognises early career nutrition scientists (or those working in a related field), whether working in academia, policy or industry, who show great potential to be future leaders in the field. Applications are welcome from any country.

Applicants are required to complete an application form and submit an abstract that could be turned into a mini review describing a topical, emerging area of human nutrition science that would be suitable for submission to the British Nutrition Foundation’s peer-reviewed journal Nutrition Bulletin.

International Day of Women and Girls in Science

The International Day of Women and Girls in Science is commemorated annually on 11 February, highlighting the critical role women and girls play in STEM (STEM = Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and the urgent need to address the gender gap in these fields. The 2025 theme, “Equity in Science for a Sustainable Future,” underscores the importance of creating inclusive opportunities for women and girls to actively contribute to solving pressing global challenges like climate change, health crises, and environmental sustainability. Despite making up nearly half of the global population, women remain underrepresented in STEM, with only about 30% of researchers worldwide being women. This day calls for breaking down systemic barriers such as stereotypes, biases, and limited access to education, especially in underserved communities. By empowering women and girls to engage in science equitably, we unlock their potential to drive innovative solutions for a sustainable future, ensuring a more diverse and inclusive global scientific community.

In celebration of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, the National Science and Technology Forum (NSTF) proudly highlights the achievements of female scientists and promising young women shaping the future of STEM. The NSTF celebrates physicist, Prof Igle Gledhill, who has been a steadfast advocate for gender equality in science. She won the inaugural Science Diplomacy for Africa Award at the prestigious 2024 NSTF-South32 Awards, known as the ‘Science Oscars’ of South Africa (SA).

EASO Early Career Network Best Thesis Award: Application Open

The European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO) Early Career Network (ECN) Best Thesis Award will be presented at the European Congress on Obesity (ECO) from 11 – 14 May 2025 in Malaga, Spain. This award aims to recognise early career researchers and their contribution to the field of obesity. The application for the award is now open! The deadline for application submission is 12 January 2025.

The ECN Best Thesis Award finalists will not only be invited to present their research at the 32nd ECO but also be offered complimentary registration to do so. The ECN Best Thesis Award will be judged and the winner announced during the session. The winner will receive an award certificate and a €500 cash prize.

New ANH Academy Fellowships: Call for Applications

The Agriculture, Nutrition & Health Academy (AHN Academy) is calling for applications for their new Science-Policy Fellowships to fund three researchers for one year of full time work to:

  1. Support evidence-based decisions by a policy-making organization in Sub-Saharan Africa or South Asia, using results of recently conducted scientifically valid impact assessments, program evaluations or other policy analyses; and
  2. Build skills and experience in translating and positioning scientific evidence to guide policies and programs that increase use of healthy diets or reduce loss and waste in SSA or SA, with attention to climate change and the environment, equity and gender transformative actions.

Successful proposals will build on the candidate’s previous research about one or more policies and programs to deliver evidence useful for decision-making. Candidates should demonstrate how this Fellowship builds on their past work, furthers their career, and benefits from their proposed mentorship and placement within a policy organisation.

Award information

Award: £52,600 in total funding for each Fellow and £2,200 for each Mentor
Duration: 12-months of full-time effort
Fellowships will begin between 1 June to 1 December 2025
Submission deadline is 14 February 2025

IUNS Re-integration Grant: Deadline Extended

We are pleased to inform you that the deadline for applications for the IUNS Re-integration Grant has been extended to 1 December 2024. We understand the importance of adequate time to prepare a strong application, and we hope this additional time will benefit all interested participants.

Designed to support early-career nutritionists who have recently completed their doctoral studies in developed countries, this grant provides financial assistance for various essentials needed to transition smoothly into a new role. IUNS Living Legends Award Nomination

This month, we are featuring the IUNS Living Legends Awards. This award celebrates individuals aged 80 and above for their remarkable contributions to nutrition on a national or regional level. These prestigious awards are announced every four years at the IUNS International Congress of Nutrition (ICN), with no limit on the number of recipients per event.

Who Can Be Nominated?
Members of recognized Adhering Bodies who are 80 years or older (by the year of the ICN) can be nominated, as long as they’re not current IUNS Council members. There’s no limit to the number of nominations.

How to Nominate:
To nominate someone, you’ll need:

  • A completed online form
  • Candidate’s date of birth
  • A headshot photo
  • A short biography detailing their contributions and achievements

Deadline:
Submit nominations by 31st January 2025.

Selection Process

An anonymous Awards Committee, appointed by the IUNS President and representing diverse regions, will evaluate all nominations. The committee will recommend one outstanding candidate for the award.

IUNS-ICN 2025: IUNS Awards Nominations

We are excited to announce that all the IUNS awards are now open for nominations. These prestigious awards recognise individuals who have significantly dedicated and contributed to the field of nutrition. Your nominations can help us recognise and celebrate the outstanding achievements of our peers and colleagues.

Therefore, you are invited to participate in the nomination process. Each award has a set of different nomination eligibility and selection criteria. Please check the relevant award page for a detailed nomination guideline.

Applied Physiology, Nutrition, and Metabolism Award for Nutrition Translation

CNS is calling for proposals for the Applied Physiology, Nutrition, and Metabolism (APNM) Award for Nutrition Translation. The theme for 2024 is Sweeteners & Health!

This prestigious award aims to recognize excellence in the translation of nutritional knowledge, fostering activities that bridge the gap between research and practice in the field of nutrition.

CNS invites researchers from all backgrounds to submit proposals on the theme of Sweeteners & Health, encompassing nutritive, low-calorie, and non-nutritive sweeteners. Proposals should address specific areas within this broad theme, demonstrating relevance, novelty, anticipated impact, and timeliness.

A team with an early and/or mid-career investigator is encouraged. Trainees are welcome to submit a proposal with support of their supervisor or mentor.
