IUNS COMMITTEE ON CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT IN NUTRITION
Chair: Professor Alfredo Martinez
IUNS Representatives: Professor Hyun Sook Kim & Professor Francis Zotor
The IUNS Committee on Capacity Development in Nutrition is focused on supporting the development of early career nutrition scientists. The latest project the Committee has undertaken is collating a directory of high quality, online nutrition courses. Many are available for free, but for some selected by the Committee, grants are available to enable the attendance of students from selected IUNS Adhering Bodies across the globe.
Activities include:
- Travel grants to assist early career nutritionists with attending conferences, including the IUNS-ICN.
- The E-Nutrition Academy – the website can be found via this link.
- Professional development for young nutrition scientists
- Re-integration grants to enable students who have graduated in nutritional sciences abroad to travel to their home country to start their careers with funds available for books, laptops etc.
History of the IUNS Committee on Capacity Development in Nutrition
The Committee originated as an IUNS Task Force, during the previous Council period and was chaired by the then IUNS President, Professor Anna Lartey. During that period the Task Force awarded three Re-Integrations grants to members of Adhering Bodies who completed their doctoral studies in a developed country to assist them to start their career in their home low or middle income country and through this Task Force IUNS supported the e-Nutrition Academy (eNA).
Current President, Professor Alfredo Martinez agreed to take over as the Chair, supported by Council Members Professor Francis Zotor, Professor Hyun-Sook Kim and Professor Benjamin Caballero as initial members. As all members are also on the IUNS Council, the name of the group was changed to the IUNS Committee on Capacity Development in Nutrition. During this Council period the Committee is exploring the possibilities of extending the work of eNA by offering further online nutrition courses to selected IUNS Adhering Body members across the globe.
