Professor Helmut Heseker

Since 1997 Dr. Heseker has been Professor of nutritional sciences at the Institute of Nutrition, Consumption and Health, Paderborn University, Germany. He holds a diploma in human nutrition and a Ph.D. from Justus-Liebig-University in Giessen.

In 2007 he spent six months as a visiting scientist at Jean Mayer HNRCA at Tufts University Tufts University, Boston (MA), working on the risks and benefits of folic acid fortification.

Dr. Heseker is currently the principal investigator of a large F&D project to reduce the prevalence of overweight and obesity of children and youth in the area of Paderborn, starting with an intensive counselling of midwifes, gynaecologists and pregnant women, parents, nursery teachers and paediatricians. He has published more than two hundred original papers in scientific journals in German or in English language, including reviews, textbook chapters and full papers presented at national and international scientific conferences. Dr Heseker is also editor of the largest German nutritional journal Ernaehrungs Umschau, member of the editorial board and acts as a reviewer on several scientific journal panels
