Invitation to nominate additional candidates for the Fellow of the International Union of Nutritional Sciences (FIUNS).

Extension to the nomination period for IUNS awards.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and difficulties in travelling abroad, after much thought and deliberation, the Organizing Committee of the 22nd IUNS-ICN decided to postpone the Congress to December 6 -11, 2022. Due to this date change, IUNS has extended the nominations period for the 2022 IUNS Fellows.

According to the IUNS Statutes and Rules, Affiliated Bodies of IUNS can make nominations for the 2022 IUNS Fellows. Therefore, IUNS Council invites nominations for additional candidates. Those already nominated will still be considered.  The Fellows will be presented at the General Assembly which will be held at the 22nd IUNS-ICN, in Tokyo, Japan that takes place from the 6th to the 11th  of December 2022. 

The IUNS Rules for the title of Fellow are as follows:

 The Council shall award the title of Fellow of the International Union of Nutritional Sciences (FIUNS) to individuals who have rendered outstanding service to the cause of nutrition. This appointment shall take place at the General Assembly every four (4) years. Persons of all nationalities are eligible to become Fellows and members of the current IUNS Council are not eligible to become Fellows.

The names of candidates for Fellows shall be proposed by:

1.           Adhering Bodies;

2.           Affiliated Bodies;

3.           National Science Academies;

4.           Nutrition Institutions; and

5.           IUNS Fellows.

Individuals cannot apply on their own behalf.

Those proposing candidates must take into account the following:

Outstanding nutrition research; 

Contributions to the advancement of knowledge;

Scientific publications in reputed international journals;

Academic achievements;

Development of nutritional science; 

Establishment of nutrition centres;

Human resource development;

National projects; and

Formulation of national nutritional policies and programmes.

National recognition in terms of awards/prizes/honours.

Contribution to IUNS and other international organisations in the field of nutrition.  

The number of Fellows appointed must not exceed one-third of Adhering Bodies.

The privileges of Fellows shall be as follows;

1.           A certificate of FIUNS;

2.           To propose candidates for Fellows;

3.           To represent IUNS at regional meetings;

4.           To receive gratis publications of IUNS.

The deadline for nominating Fellows is the 31st of May 2022.

Nominations must include a CV and a letter detailing how the nominee fulfils the criteria of an IUNS Fellow. Please send all nominations to Professor Catherine Geissler at office@IUNS.org.

Extension to nominations period: Living Legends Awards Session at IUNS-ICN 2022

Within the IUNS congress in Tokyo (ICN2022), we are planning to have a session to present awards of Living Legends in the field of Nutrition. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and difficulties in travelling abroad, after much thought and deliberation, the Organizing Committee of the 22nd IUNS-ICN decided to postpone the Congress to the 6th to the 11th of December, 2022. Due to this date change, IUNS has extended the nominations period for the Living Legends Awards.

The IUNS Rules for the award of the title Living Legend are as follows:

The Council shall present IUNS Living Legend awards to individual members of Adhering Bodies in good standing who are eighty (80) years old or above in the year of the IUNS Congress.

The IUNS Living Legend award(s) will be announced at the General Assembly, every four (4) years.

There will be no limitation on the number of IUNS Living Legend Awards presented at a General Assembly.

The IUNS Award Committee, directed by the Council shall determine the awardee on the following factors:

Contribution to the work of the national nutrition society or regional organization.

Nominations should include the candidates:

– Date of birth

– Photo

– Brief biography related to CV and achievements
