Mission Statement

To evaluate, reflect, and galvanize nutrition research in Asia, ensuring that future research is context-specific, impactful, and aligned with regional health needs. 

Background

Asia, home to over half of the global population, faces a triple burden of malnutrition, undernutrition, overnutrition, and micronutrient deficiencies, driven by rapid economic growth and nutrition transitions. Despite growing scientific output, it remains unclear whether this research has translated into better health outcomes. ACTIVATOR was established to conduct a systematic, region-wide evaluation of nutrition research, align it with national priorities, and build a stronger foundation for evidence-based policy and practice. 

Key Objectives 

• Evaluate the current state and quality of nutrition research in Asia

• Reflect on alignment between national priorities and published evidence

• Galvanize efforts to generate high-quality, context-specific research to inform regional policies and interventions 

Planned Deliverables 

• Open-access publication of a decadal evaluation of Asian nutrition research

• Hybrid webinars and social media platforms to disseminate findings and foster dialogue

• A white paper to inform policymakers, funders, and research leaders across Asia
